About Nature’s Little Learners in Harrogate
At our all-natural, Curiosity-inspired nurseries in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, we care for children from birth to 5 years. We provide a range of age-appropriate, open-ended resources and activities to encourage their development right up until they are ready to join school.
Who We Are
Nature’s Little Learners got its start in Harrogate in 2021 by Sam Williams. We decided to do things a bit differently at Nature’s Little Learners by creating a space which fosters early learning and development in a fun and safe environment, where children from birth to 5 years can explore the world around them.
We believe our innovative, curiosity-inspired approach gives children a bright and positive start in life as we encourage both exploration and discovery, as well as emotional intelligence and building friendships.
At Nature’s Little Learners, it is our mission to create the next generation of confident, imaginative children, in whatever way suits them best. If your child shows no interest in sitting down and learning to write their name, it’s fine! We can use sticks and mud or draw our name in the sand... we can learn and explore in their own unique way!
We believe that a structured ‘classroom’ environment is too fixed for children who are in their early years. Instead, we allow children the freedom to free flow from indoors to outdoors for the majority of the day, preventing children’s play and learning from being disrupted by rigid routines or adult-led activities.
Our Philosophy
Our mission at Nature's Little Learners is to nurture children into confident, critical thinkers who carry a lifelong appreciation for their health and well-being.
Whether it's through reading, creative activities, exploration, or learning, we are dedicated to fostering their personal, social, and emotional development in a playful, curious manner. This focus empowers children to understand the importance of values, respect each other's uniqueness, and display care and enthusiasm for our environment and resources.
As a result, children in our care grow into strong, self-assured, and independent explorers of the world around them. Our little learners are encouraged to draw inspiration from their own limitless imaginations, honing their critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities, giving them the confidence to share their own views and ideas whilst being accepting of one another.
A Message From Our Owner
After dedicating 11 years to Early Years education, I often find myself reflecting on the evolution of my teaching methods. While my education certainly played a significant role in shaping this transformation, my true inspiration comes from viewing the world through a child's perspective, where every moment is filled with curiosity.
The journey of Nature's Little Learners started in 2009 with my initial group: Jack, Megan, and Scarlett. Watching these children interact with each other and explore the world around them was wonderful. One day, as I observed their imaginative approach to play, it struck me how far they had come in their development. It was at that moment that Early Years was no longer my job – it was my passion!
Caring for children each day means you really get to know them and gain a deeper understanding of their distinct personalities and qualities. Watching my first group
of children grow from being tiny young babies to creative, friendly and accepting best friends was an amazing experience. It gave me a sense of achievement to think that working alongside these children and their wonderful families had truly enabled me to ‘see the world through the eyes of a child’

All our baby team are safer sleep trained.
1 - 2 years
Our specially designed Toddler Room is an engaging space created to cater to their developmental milestones. The key purpose of this room is to provide a safe and stimulating environment that encourages exploration, learning, and social interaction.
Our dedicated early years practitioners are trained to support and guide your child during this crucial stage of development. Within this room, your little learner will find age-appropriate resources and activities that promote physical coordination, language acquisition, and early problem-solving skills.
Safety is paramount, and our room is carefully designed with childproofing measures in place to ensure a secure play area. We understand that toddlers are curious and active, and our room is a place where they can flourish, make friends, and continue their exciting journey of growth and discovery.
Preschool Room
The primary purpose of our preschool room is to foster the growth of our little learners in a supportive and curious environment. At Nature’s Little Learners, we are dedicated to providing a comprehensive early learning experience that emphasises social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through the use of all-natural, open-ended resources.
In the Preschool Room, your child will engage in a variety of age-appropriate activities, including hands-on learning, creative arts and crafts, early literacy and numeracy exercises, and group interactions that encourage communication and cooperation.
Whilst we limit the use of technology devices within our nursery, we understand that children will naturally be curious when it comes to this. As children progress in the Preschool Room, we have long-term planning in place to allow preschool-aged children short periods of time to explore technology. During this time, children are allowed access to interact with age-appropriate computer software to enhance their skills to ensure school readiness.
We've created a calming and supportive space where your child can develop essential skills whilst having fun and building friendships. Our curriculum is designed to prepare them for the transition to formal schooling without the use of structured classroom learning, developing a natural curiosity that will instil a love for learning to last a lifetime.
Outdoor Space
At Nature’s Little Learners we recognise the importance of outdoor play on a child’s physical and emotional development; we believe that exposure to the natural environment stimulates curiosity and cognitive growth, whilst teaching children to appreciate and respect the world around them.
Not all children enjoy learning in closed spaces, this can have an impact on their emotional wellbeing as they feel less confident and anxious. Children who have access to outdoor learning can feel calmer, allowing them to be active learners, feel motivated and develop a positive attitude towards learning.
At Nature's Little Learners, our outdoor space provides children with a place to take part in physical activities that contribute to motor skill development, coordination, and physical fitness. Our play equipment allows our children to spend time socialising outdoors, helping them to develop their social skills in a relaxed and playful environment that can be enjoyed all day and in all weathers.
Combining Learning with Childcare
We believe that it’s never too early to start exploring and learning and that it’s vital to always present opportunities for children to develop and grow as soon as they start at our settings.
By creating our programmes with childcare specialists, we’ve been able to hone in on what makes development from birth to 5 years old a success; our learning programme allows our children to appreciate values, respect each other’s individuality and show care and enthusiasm for our settings and our resources, allowing them to enter school seamlessly.
We intend to help children become confident, critical thinkers, with a lifelong love for their health and well-being – whether it be through reading, creating, exploring or learning.
